According to the Moscow Planetarium, there will be four eclipses in 2024 — two solar and two lunar. The solar eclipse on April 8 will be total — the lunar shadow will completely cover the solar disk. The last time such a phenomenon was observed was on April 20, 2023, and the next total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026.
Today, March 25, there is a penumbral lunar eclipse. It begins at 7:53 Moscow time and reaches its peak at 10:12. In Russia, residents of Chukotka can observe it, but only partially. In most of Russia, the eclipse will not be visible.
As for the solar eclipse, it will begin on April 8, 2024 at 21:38 Moscow time, but it will only be visible in America, Canada and Mexico. The partial phases of the eclipse will be visible in Central America and Western Europe. In Russia, once again, it will not be possible to see it.
In the US, by the way, people are already worried about the upcoming solar eclipse: they say it could seriously affect air traffic and cause chaos at airports. The thing is that thousands of people are flying to places where the eclipse can be viewed — and the load on the transportation network rises sharply. Cellular service may also be disrupted due to the influx of travelers into the regions where the eclipse will be visible best.

The second lunar eclipse will take place on September 18 — it will be partial, and it will be visible in the western regions of Russia. The second solar eclipse of the year — an annular one — will occur on October 2. It will not be visible on the territory of our country.
