Completely non-shedding cat breeds do, of course, exist – the ones that have no fur. However, there aren't all that many «balding» breeds, but breeders have made an effort, and now you can find low-shedding cat breeds with short and even long fur.
By the way, if you're allergic to fur, then a pet with a low degree of shedding won't become a hypoallergenic friend for you. The idea that it's specifically fur that causes allergies – is a widespread misconception; in reality it occurs because of a protein found in the microscopic particles of a pet's skin, saliva, and urine.
Many animal lovers don't see any particular problem with cat fur – after all, humanity has already invented the vacuum cleaner. However, if you don't want any extra chores around the house, and constantly brushing fur off your clothes isn't convenient for you, then this top-10 of low-shedding and hairless cat breeds is just the thing for you.
Sphynx
The most obvious option for a cat with no shedding is, of course, this hairless breed, whose representatives are often compared to alien beings.
Sphynxes are heat-loving, attached to their owners, and sociable. Their baldness – is the result of a mutation that breeders made into a consistent trait. Because of their sweatiness, they require special care; you should also be prepared for the fact that, instead of fur, traces of sweat may be left on the furniture.
Peterbald
Also known as the peterbald, also known as the Petersburg sphynx. A cat breed originating from our country – it was bred in 1994 in Saint Petersburg, hence the name. Peterbalds come in different colors, short-haired and hairless.
Representatives of this breed are not noted for an independent character; on the contrary, they need constant interaction with their owners, and are also distinguished by friendliness toward all family members and a playful disposition.
Don Sphynx
Also a breed of ours, developed in Rostov-on-Don. It is distinguished by intelligence and quick-wittedness, is easily trained, attached to its owners, and almost entirely devoid of aggression.
The Don Sphynx, as a rule, has a muscular body and hot skin that is silky to the touch. Although sphynxes don't shed, they do require care – they need to be bathed regularly to help remove excess oil from the skin.
Cornish Rex
On the one hand, a cat, and on the other – a little lamb. The Cornish's fur has no guard hairs, and the undercoat is curled into a tight wave, structurally resembling astrakhan fur.
Cornish cats are fairly easy to keep, not prone to hereditary diseases, only they need to be fed carefully, since they have a tendency to overeat.
Selkirk Rex
The breed is fairly rare; it was developed in the USA in the late 1980s. It is distinguished by curly, wavy fur, which, with regular brushing, it doesn't scatter around the house much. Persians, exotics, and Britishes took part in the establishment of the breed, but since 2015 Selkirks can be crossed only with cats of the same breed.
The Selkirk Rex is distinguished by calmness and patience, which is why it can endure games with children, even small ones. It is undemanding in daily life and doesn't get cold, which is no small matter for our latitudes.
Devon Rex
Cats of this breed, distinguished by a friendly disposition and an unconventional appearance, were developed in Britain in the 1960s. They are partly similar to Cornishes, but the Devons' fur is more wavy than curly.
The Devons' character is also distinctive: it is sometimes described as something between a cat, a dog, and a monkey. If there's some tall cabinet or shelving unit in the house, you will undoubtedly find the cat at the very top. A Devon can also, like a dog, easily be taught to fetch you various objects.
Siamese cat
Because of their similar coloring, this breed is often confused with the Thai, which is more common in Russia. However, the Siamese cat is distinguished by a more elongated body and a more pronounced «ear-floppiness».
Siamese cats are very sociable and playful; their fur is short, so they are classified among the low-shedding breeds.
Bengal
A «leopard on a budget» – the Bengal resembles its large predatory relative only in its coloring. Because out of all the surfaces for sleeping in the apartment, it will surely prefer your lap.
This short-haired cat also sheds little, especially if it is brushed regularly. Because the breed was developed by crossing domestic cats with wild ones, Bengals have a well-developed hunting instinct, but with affectionate handling they are not noted for any particular aggression.
British Shorthair cat
The fur is soft and fluffy, but at the same time very short, so with regular brushing you'll rarely encounter the consequences of shedding. The most common color – is smoky.
By character, Britishes are calm, not too fussy in daily life, and they tolerate affection from their owners with a certain condescension.
LaPerm
A cat breed with characteristic fur curling into ringlets was developed in the 1990s in the USA. It comes both long-haired and short-haired. As breeders assure, with proper care – timely brushing, it doesn't shed much.
LaPerms are very friendly, and they take a liking both to children and to dogs. Their owner's lap – is their favorite resting spot after the games to which they are also inclined.
