The Marozi

The Marozi, a mythical creature also called the spotted lion, supposedly has a face resembling a lion's, a magnificent mane, while its body and coloring resemble those of a jaguar. In the 1930s, there were several reports of it being seen in the mountains of Kenya, but nothing has been heard of it since.

It's said that the Natural History Museum in Great Britain has a hide of a spotted Marozi. But many experts believe that it is actually the hide of a jaguar born from crossbreeding with ordinary lowland lions.

The Kamchatka giant bear

The Swedish zoologist Sten Bergman, who worked in Kamchatka in the 1920s, discovered an enormous paw print and decided that it might be a bear of unusual size.

By all indirect indications, it is almost twice as large as an ordinary North American grizzly bear – standing 2 meters at the shoulder. Some biologists genuinely believe that there exists a small group of Kamchatka giant bears that survived the last ice age.

Bigfoot

Bigfoot is a large, hairy creature that walks on two legs and inhabits North America. It was given this nickname in the late 1950s in California. Initially it was just a local legend, but then it became a real sensation in the mass media and spread all over the world.

Many people claim that they have seen Bigfoot, although none of them have any proof. The Patterson-Gimlin film, which captured a creature running through the forest, is perhaps the most important piece of evidence in the history of the study of unknown animals in the 20th century.

The Yeti

The Himalayan mountains are considered the home of the yeti – a creature resembling a bear or an ape, which has been part of Eastern lore for centuries. Covered in long fur, the yeti is just as mysterious as Bigfoot.

The skunk ape

In Florida, there have been several reports of sightings of the southern relative of Bigfoot. The most famous case occurred in 2000, when a couple took a clear photo of a certain creature that, in size, resembled a 2-meter-tall orangutan. Witnesses claimed that a terrible smell emanated from this creature.

The Lizard Man

This scaly green hominid, the mysterious inhabitant of the Scape Ore Swamp in South Carolina, has long been at the center of local legends. Although many consider this creature to be merely a fairy tale, some swear that they have come face to face with it.

Once a local radio station offered 1 million dollars for footage of this creature live. But the reward remained unclaimed.

The Jersey Devil

This creature is the strangest even by the standards of myths. Most eyewitness accounts say that it has wings, the head of a horse, the hooves of a pig, and the body of a kangaroo. The legend of the Jersey Devil arose in the 1700s and is based on a story about a cursed child who turned into a demon and flew off into the night.

To this day, people claim to have seen this Devil in the eerie Pine Barrens in the south of New Jersey. By the way, scientists believe that this is possibly a case of misidentifying a sandhill crane.

The Chupacabra

The chupacabra differs in appearance across various stories. In any case, it's an animal with fangs and claws that feeds on the blood of livestock.

The first reports of its victims, such as goats, chickens, horses, cows, and even pets, were recorded in the 1950s. At that time, farmers often found animals completely drained of blood, but with several large puncture wounds from the fangs of an unknown monster.

The Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster, also known as Nessie, – is another creature known all over the world. Supposedly, it is a large marine animal with a thin neck that lives in Loch Ness, a Scottish lake.

The lake is considerably deep in some places – about 250 meters, which allows the monster to hide reliably. However, despite the fact that hundreds of years have passed since the first mentions of the Loch Ness Monster, apart from a few blurry photographs and unreliable eyewitness accounts, there is no scientific evidence of its existence. Scientists are inclined to think that if people really did see some creature, it could have been merely a giant eel.

Tahoe Tessie

Deep in Lake Tahoe, on the border of California and Nevada, hides a legendary sea creature that is called a relative of the Loch Ness Monster. It's said that Jacques Cousteau, the famous explorer, declared after an underwater expedition in this spot: «The world isn't ready for what's hidden at the bottom». 

In popular descriptions, Tessie is portrayed as a freshwater relative of the whale or a 6-meter sea serpent with a humped back.

The Mogollon Monster

In Eastern Arizona there is a long, rocky ridge that stretches through dense forest and is called the Mogollon Rim. The locals tell of a creature living there – the Mogollon Monster. It's said to be very tall, to move on two legs, to be covered in thick, long fur, and to have an unpleasant smell.

The Kraken

The kraken – is a legendary monster-creature that dwells in the depths of the ocean near the northern regions. It is a giant octopus that loves to attack ships and frighten sailors.

Such a claim may well have a basis in reality. After all, there exist enormous squid capable of reaching up to 15 meters in length.

Champ

Champ, like Tessie, got its name from the freshwater body of water where it supposedly dwells – Lake Champlain, located on the border of New York and Vermont.

Over the years, hundreds of sightings have been recorded of a creature that eyewitnesses describe as a snake-like being with a scaly body about 15 meters long. One group of researchers even believes that Champ is actually a surviving plesiosaur, which, in fact, went extinct more than 60 million years ago.
