Five of its six vaults are open – and full of treasures. Gold, silver, diamonds and other precious stones, coins, jewelry, vessels – too many to count. The total value of the riches in these chambers is estimated at one trillion dollars.
But no one has entered the sixth chamber for centuries.
No one knows what lies inside Vault B. It is sealed by three doors. The material from which the first door is built is wood, and the second is iron. But the last door is very strange. It too is iron, but it has no lock on it at all. Instead, there is an engraving of two enormous serpents guarding the entrance.
This door of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in India is never opened, because of a curse and the deep belief of the local people in the supernatural.
The royal family of Travancore, which in its time was responsible for managing the temple, claimed that this vault is under the influence of a magical curse, and that opening it would be tantamount to a catastrophe for the entire state.
Several people who tried to open the fateful doors died suddenly. It is said that in the 1930s a group of raiders attempted to steal the property from this chamber. However, they failed to achieve their goal because of enormous, venomous serpents that appeared in their path out of nowhere. This is, of course, a legend, but a very impressive one.
It is believed that during the reign of King Marthanda Varma, the great ancient sages sealed the gates with the mantras of the Naga Paasam, known as the «serpent loop».
The Naga Paasam can be removed only by correctly reciting the Garuda mantra. And this is a task that only a saint of exceptional level can accomplish, not an ordinary person.
About a hundred years ago, when the local community was struggling with a cruel famine, the temple administrators tried to open the chamber in order to make use of the treasures hidden behind the doors.
However, when they heard the sound of breaking ocean waves coming from behind the door, they retreated and decided not to proceed.
Since then it has been believed that this chamber is somehow connected with the Arabian Sea, and that any attempt to use modern technology to open the door would lead to large-scale damage throughout the state, especially in Kerala.
Although the contents of the mysterious chamber still remain a secret, historians believe that during the reign of the King of Travancore the temple accumulated enormous wealth – offerings and donations made by the rulers of other states. And all these treasures are most likely located precisely in Vault B.
