The frightening discovery was made by Australian resident Bobbi-Lee Oates. The woman was walking along the beach in the town of Keppel Sands when she noticed a strange skeleton lying on the sand. By its very appearance, the remains suggest that mermaids may actually exist.
Marine biologists arrived to unravel the mystery of the enigmatic skeleton. The scientists noted that the remains had indeed left them stumped. The creature, which Bobbi-Lee dubbed the «alien mermaid», is almost 2 meters long and covered in fur. The upper part of the body resembles a human's, while the lower part resembles something like a fish's tail.
Nevertheless, scientists are in no hurry to declare that some mythical entity has ended up on an Australian beach. Rob Deaville, a researcher at the Zoological Society of London, suggested that the skeleton belongs not to a mysterious mermaid of legend but to an entirely real cetacean. Specialists noted that such skeletons are found in marine mammals, which can include both dolphins and the rarest seals.
