You won't see any sad faces here — that's simply impossible. The Brazilian night is lit brighter than the day, the streets are packed with crowds, and street vendors rake in the profits that will feed them for the whole year, until the next carnival.
Elaborately dressed beauties and handsome men, astonishing installations on wheels rolling through the city streets, feathers and sequins, bright makeup and tens of thousands of tourists — this is the Brazilian carnival. According to experts' estimates, Rio de Janeiro earns incredible money from tourists during the carnival: this year 12.5 million dollars were invested in the festivities, while the expected return is more than a billion.
These aren't just some colorful processions, because thanks to the carnival around 50 thousand people get jobs. The government is trying to rid Rio of its reputation as an unsafe city: during the processions, more than 12 thousand police officers are on duty in the streets.
During the preparations for the carnival, money goes to dance schools and clubs that help residents and tourists prepare for the procession in the best possible way: they teach people to sing, to dance the samba, and to play musical instruments.
And, when all is said and done, it's simply beautiful! Girls resembling birds of paradise, vivid costumes, electrifying rhythms — it seems that even the sight of these photos sets music playing in your soul, and the gray Russian February becomes a little brighter and warmer.
