Many gardeners save up wood ash all year so that in spring they can use it to fertilise the soil for all sorts of plants. However, such feeding isn't suitable for every planting. Whether it applies to peonies was explained by agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
According to the expert, you can fertilise flowers with ash, but you have to use it correctly. One way — is to scatter the feed around the peonies at a rate of 100 grams per square metre and water them with warm water. The ash should not get on the leaves and blooms.
To make a liquid fertiliser, pour one litre of ash into ten litres of clean, settled water. After a week the feed will have steeped, and then it can be strained and used for watering. Each bush will take two to three litres of the infusion, the portal «Belnovosti» says.
