The ice floe was right by the water, and at the moment the pensioner sat down on it, a wave washed over the shore, picked up the icy throne and floated off together with its «queen». The floe was sturdy enough, so the panicking Judith did not end up in the water. However, drifting on an ice floe in the open ocean was surely not part of the old lady's plans.
