And indeed, the planet's largest rodent – the capybara – is the most harmless animal among its kind. It is impossible not to fall in love with it, and there are at least five reasons for that.
Reason 1. The capybara loves to eat well and lounge about
A male capybara weighs an average of 63 kg, and a female a little more. This huge animal lives in the impenetrable forests of South America and feeds mainly on grass, algae, and tree bark, and does not pass up fruit and berries before its rather voracious mouth. In its behavior, the capybara is a hopeless slacker. It loves to roll in the mud and spend whole days drying off in the blazing sun. And only the approaching evening prompts this unusual animal to set off in search of food.
Reason 2. Even crocodiles bow before the capybara

The capybara possesses some kind of inner instinct. And it knows perfectly well which predator poses no threat to it and will not eat it for lunch or dinner. The capybara even has the boldness to come up close and stand nearby, paying its respect and reverence.
Often on land near swamps you can see a curious and strange sight: a capybara dozing sweetly in the midst of crocodiles. And not one of the predators seems even to think of imagining the capybara as desirable prey. On the contrary, young crocodiles unabashedly warm themselves against the capybara's warm side. And on the other side, turtles and birds nestle up to it. It is simply an idyll of peaceful coexistence among various representatives of the fauna, where there is no place for conflict.
Reason 3. Capybaras love all children – both their own and others'
Capybaras live in communities in which strict rules are established. Everyone obeys the alpha male, who regulates the life of the pack. The exception is the capybara young. Females, for instance, do not divide the young into their own and others'. And they generously nurse them all with mother's milk. During the mating season, quarrels break out between males. But it never comes to a fight. And the field of the supposed battle is filled with nothing but the noise of whistling, chirping, and yapping from the heated males. And then the capybaras calmly disperse to their family corners.
Reason 4. The capybara has many friends because it knows how to be a friend

Often during the day you can see this huge rodent carrying monkeys, small animals, and birds on its back. It turns out the capybara enjoys it when they search through its fur for insects, which they eat on the spot. Note that the capybara is easily tamed by humans. But keeping one at home is very difficult and expensive. The capybara cannot live without a water environment. And it constantly requires a spacious pool. Although in Russia there are daring and well-off people who can afford to shell out up to 300,000 rubles for a capybara.
Reason 5. The capybara loves to chat and gossip
These darlings can make an incredible number of sounds depending on the emotions they feel. They can grunt, growl, squeal, grumble, and even purr and meow!
