Hoya is a plant that has become a real hit among flower lovers and simply among connoisseurs of beauty in interiors. It is very undemanding in care and requires a minimum of attention – this is considered one of its main attractive features.
But there are many undemanding plants. Why is it precisely the hoya that has become so popular? Its advantages are simple: it is a plant without pretensions, capable of decorating any room and bringing positive emotions with its beautiful vine-like leaves and unusual flowers. And it is also believed that the hoya brings happiness, peace, and harmony into a home. Omens say that where a hoya grows, there are no quarrels or squabbles.
The hoya is also called the «wax flower» because its leaves have a layer of waxy coating. The flowers resemble stars in appearance and have a dizzying sweet aroma. This plant blooms from the end of spring until the very beginning of autumn. When the first flowers fade, new ones appear in their place – so do not rush to pick them off.
In all there are more than 200 species of this plant, but, of course, not all of them are perfectly suited for growing in an apartment. The most popular for the home are wax plant (Hoya carnosa) and miniature wax plant (Hoya bella).
A kitty worth a million: the 5 most expensive cat breeds As for caring for the hoya, it usually feels good in a well-lit spot, at the same time without direct sunlight, in a room with a temperature of 18° to 25° degrees.
The hoya needs moderate watering – best of all with filtered soft water. Do not allow the soil to dry out or become waterlogged, and water it only when the top layer of soil has dried out by 1-2 cm.
The plant should be fed once every two weeks. This plant should be fed mineral fertilizers for houseplants once a month during the period of active growth – from March to September.
The hoya needs to be repotted every 2-3 years. Use soil for houseplants with good drainage capacity and do not plant it too deep in the pot.
Periodically it can be pruned to maintain its shape and stimulate branching. In other respects the hoya is not demanding about its living conditions and adapts beautifully to the setting in any apartment.
An indoor flower of this kind will certainly become the highlight of your interior, and you will be able to enjoy its beauty and aroma for a very long time. The hoya lives several years if it is cared for properly.
