The residents of the British village of Gloucestershire have run into real trouble. For ten whole years now they have been waging a battle against brazen sheep that raid gardens and plots. The animals stroll calmly through the village streets and happily feast on the flowers, vegetables, and fruit growing in the gardens of the unfortunate residents. Because of this, people have even stopped growing crops. And is there any point, if nothing is left to them after the «robberies» of the hooligan sheep.

Some residents have built whole barricades in the form of protective netting against large livestock, but even in these the sheep manage to find loopholes.

The population blames everything on the local shepherd, who keeps poor control over the flock. But it is so enormous that he cannot keep an eye on them all. Apparently, a gang of its own has formed within the flock, one that knows all the escape routes and the tastiest garden plots.

In the end, the shepherd flatly declared that, according to an established common-law statute, sheep may graze wherever they please. And that, supposedly, he could not be held to account. Of course, there was no limit to the population's outrage. Resident Geoff Beveridge admitted that together with his neighbors he is preparing a petition for signature.

«So far there are only two shrubs that the sheep do not eat — lavender and rosemary. Otherwise they devour and destroy everything. Something has to be done about it!», Geoff fumes.

And then there are the little lambs that wander into the village and, having lost their mothers, begin to bleat loudly. Whether in the middle of the night or early in the morning.

The village administration has come to the conclusion that a fence should be built around the entire perimeter to prevent the sheep raids. But won't they find a loophole again?
